He is a reason man, of course, he is an emotional man. He is very brave in the battlefield, so that his enemies are threatened and vanquished by his couragement. His action is very excellent, for example, he brandishes the clubbed weapon and cuts the air wide and powerful sweeps and so on. He makes good friends with Chingachgook. Although he is a white man, he has been raised by Native Americans. Hawk-eye would do everything for his friends. I admire him so much. Sometimes he is also moved by other people’s feelings. Because of his living environment, he thinks that the knowledge of civilization is not important, he doesn’t like books, he has already learned the legendary skills and powers of the forests, that is, he is an expert to survive the harsh and severe frontier life. Hawk-eye believes that is enough. In my opinion, Hawk-eye is a brilliant man. I am proud of him. He can live in his own way, he isn’t influenced by other people, although Hawk-eye is a white man, he would rather live with the Mohicans. It is a bloody chapter. Cora and four Englishmen were trapped by Magua. Hawkeye and his friend want to rescue them. After a long time wrestling, Hawkeye succeed at last. Obviously, Hawkeye always has a good luck.     He points out that people should not seek absolute mastery and try to rival God. He finds that the greatest lesson taught by nature is humility.

David is a singing teacher who believed in Christianity. From the conversation between Hawk-eye and David we can see that Hawk-eye distained the religion, he only believe nature. His Indian companion, the Mohican chief Chingachgook, is Cooper’s ideal of the natural man, whose native intelligence, loyalty and brotherly love are not spoiled by civilization. Besides, this book is full of blood and fighting, but includes descriptive images of the beauty of nature memory of Sir Walter Scott, the legendary spirit of whose border tales might have been a source of inspiration for the author. Hawkeye’s friendship with Chingachgook manifests the understanding of and appreciation for the differences in people and could be considered as one of American ideals.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
